Magnetic stripe technology is undergoing dramatic changes as VISA™ implements it's high coercivity standards.  VISA™ USA requires that all cards manufactured after 07/01/97 be high coercivity cards; therefore, by 07/01/98 all cards must be issued with the high coercivity stripe.  The main purpose of the high coercivity stripe is to provide resistance to tampering and erasure, which results in fewer cases of altered or damaged cards.  The difference between high and low coercivity cards is that the high coercivity magnetic stripe is darker than the low coercivity magnetic stripe.  DSI offers a wide range of solutions that interfaces with the OSCARE unit, from Instant Issuance Personalization Systems to PC-Controlled Systems.
